Introduction:
Fertilization of agricultural soils with
chemical compounds which contain high concentrations of phosphate and nitrogen results
in the accumulation of substances that can be dangerous for many live organisms and
in many cases, these fertilizers cannot be used by plants. It is considered that
around 80% of the phosphate added to soil becomes unavailable to plants. Microorganisms
that solubilize phosphate from soil and promote its uptake by plants are known as
phosphate mobilizers and are included within PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria).
Since phosphorous is the most important nutrient after nitrogen for plant growth,
these microorganisms together with nitrogen fixing organisms have a great potential
as biofertilizers that can contribute to a sustainable agriculture.
Objectives:
The aim of the First Meeting on Microbial
Phosphate Solubilization is to promote a new way of communication, a globalized and
interactive one, where experiences, ideas and knowledge flow swiftly and efficiently
among scientists, students and industry people desiring to exchange. This Meeting
offers the scientific community throughout the world an opportunity to experience
presentations covering four main topics:
Taxonomy of PSB
Physiological and Molecular Basis
of phosphate solubilization in microorganisms
PSB as biofertilizers
PSB and bioremediation
With the objective of reaching a large
audience interested in the role that microorganisms play in the P-cycling, the organizing
committee has planned two ways of participating in this Meeting:
An On Site Meeting: which has held in
Salamanca (Spain) from 16th to 19th July 2002
A Virtual Meeting: which will be made
available via Internet upon registration. The access to the Abstracts will be free.
Registration to the Virtual Meeting will be from the 25th of February to 15st of
September 2002. The Virtual Meeting will be visited upto 31 december 2002.
Participants
If you wish to participate in the Virtual
Meeting, you have to send the registration form and fee application to the Organizing
Committee of the Congress in the predicted dates. In order to be able to participate
as an author you also have to send a Summary of your work together with your registration
form and, then, to present a PowerPoint presentation that will be an original scientific
work related with any of the Meeting topics (see instructions in the main page).
Registration fee: Registration is necessary to participate in the On site Meeting.
The Registration Form can be downloaded from this site.
The registration fees for On site First
Virtual International Meeting are 60 euros
Language: English
Publication: The works to be published
as a Proceedings book (published by Kluwer) and the presentations will be
send to all authors in a CD-ROM (for more details open the link publications
in the main page)
Dates
The Virtual Meeting will be
held from 15th September to 31th December 2002.
Deadline for inscription:
15th September 2002
Organization
The abstracts can be freely seen in
the link abstracts and presentations from the main page of the Virtual Meeting.
To see the presentations in power point and to send your works to the Virtual Meeting
you must be registered. The registration can be made on line from the link registration
for the Virtual Meeting
